
Ralph Richard Shirley, 69, of Garden Spot Drive in Hagerstown, Md., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013.
Born Dec. 21, 1943, in Clear Spring, Md., he was the son of the late Ralph Frederick Shirley and Catherine Belle Weller Shirley.
Dick was a 1961 graduate of Clear Spring High School. He retired from General Motors Corp. and previously was employed by Jamison Door Co. and Colonial Hardwood and Flooring.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed attending auctions and traveling.
He was a life member of The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport, and a member of Elks Lodge 378 of Hagerstown and Four Locks Hunting and Fishing Club. He was a member of the Potomac Edison Forerunners Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda M. McElroy Shirley of Hagerstown; a sister, Janet M. Andrews of Hagerstown; two brothers, Allen Fred Shirley of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Ardell “Tuck” Stottler of Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lee Shirley I.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may visit the funeral home after 1 p.m.
