Howard Wilson Ruths, Jr., 74, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Monday, May 13, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Ruths was born in 1939, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Howard W. and Kathryn M. Ruths, Sr.  He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, Class of 1957 in Smithsburg, Maryland.  Mr. Ruths was a Foreman Operating for Potomac Edison / Allegheny Power Company, serving for over 32 years, and retiring in 1997.  He was a member and Vestry Member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stephens City.  Mr. Ruths was a member of Salem Lodge #196 AF&AM in Smithsburg, Maryland; Post 239 Sons of the American Legion in Cascade, Maryland; Eagles Incorporated of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; Smithsburg (MD) Community Volunteer Fire Company; Winchester Eagles Aerie #824, Elks Lodge BPOE #867, Moose Lodge #1260 and the Potomac Edison Forerunners Club.

He married Sudie Loretta Winders on October 14, 1957, in Smithsburg, Maryland.

Surviving with his wife are his sons, Howard “Bud” W. Ruths, III and wife, Debbie of Georgetown, Tennessee, Edgar “Ed” B. Ruths and wife, Bobbi, Lynn S. Ruths and wife, Sebrina “Beanie”, all of Stephens City, Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer McCoy and husband, Nathan, Tiffany Snow and husband, Aaron, Janessa McCormick and husband, Drew, Alexis Ruths, Isaac Ruths, Taylor Ruths, Tanner Ruths and Zach McCarty; one great granddaughter, Rilyn McCormick; and his sister, Sharon F. Olsen of Cascade, Maryland.

His daughter, Susan May Ruths and sister, Shirley E. Ruths, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home located at 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia and again Monday from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church (Jones Chapel) in Stephens City, Virginia.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church (Jones Chapel) in Stephens City, Virginia with Rev Robert Clark, Jr. assisting the Rev Cameron P. Keyser.  Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, with Frank Schaller, Joel Scaller, Andrew Olsen, and Corey Snyder as Honorary Pallbearers.
