Mr. John D. Burkett, 81, of Frostproof, Florida died on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, of cancer. He was born on April 11, 1933 in Cumberland, Maryland to John and Sarah Burkett and was a 1951 graduate of Allegany High School. He moved to Frostproof twenty-six years ago from Hagerstown, Maryland. 

He was retired after forty years as a superintendent for The Potomac Edison Company. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #211 in Funkstown, Maryland, B.P.O.E. #372 in Cumberland, L.O.O.M. in Winter Haven, and a past president of the Auto Racing Club in Hagerstown. He was a member of Sun Ray United Methodist Church in Frostproof. 

John is survived by his wife of fifty-two years Helen Paxton Burkett. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at Sun Ray United Methodist Church with Pastor Curtis Cain officiating. Graveside services and inurnment will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland with Pastor Gerald M. Hott officiating.
