James “Jim” Traver Harp, passed away peacefully at his home in York, PA on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the age of 93. 

Jim died in the loving care of Marie (Beckie) Harp, his wife of 37 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James T. Harp, Jr. of Hagerstown, two grandchildren Tyler and Abby Harp, also of Hagerstown and a niece Cindy Harp Draper of Smithsburg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard D. Harp of Myersville, and his first wife Marcella Hann Harp.

Jim was born in Hagerstown on December 31, 1921 to Elmer and Grace Harp. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and served as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. During World War II, Jim was a crew chief for B17 bombers in Knettishall, England. After his service, Jim became the manager of automotive equipment for Potomac Edison, retiring in 1981, after 41 years with the company. Jim was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, Potomac Fish and Game Club, the VFW in Greencastle, the Morris Frock American Legion in Hagerstown, and was a member of the Myersville Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held for family and friends at the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Graveside services will follow at the Myersville Mount Zion United Methodist Church cemetery. 

Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made to the Myersville Mount Zion United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
