
Orpha Elizabeth (Mumma) Stockslager, 91 , reunited with her beloved Jimmie on December 22, 2017.
Born on July 2, 1926, near Sharpsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late C. Albert and Mabel (Leatherman) Mumma. Her husband, James B. Stockslager, preceded her in death as did a special cousin, James Fisher.
Orpha was a 1944 graduate of Boonsboro High School and loved attending her class reunions. Traveling, dancing, browsing antique shops and fine dining were her pleasures. She was a people person and in her later years was known for her sunny outlook. She was employed by Potomac Edison, retiring in 1988 after working there for 39 years. Orpha was a member of the Potomac Edison Forerunners retiree group.
A long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, Orpha was active with the Episcopal Church Women and served faithfully on the Altar Guild. She held membership in the Morris Frock Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary and Amvets Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary. She greatly supported our veterans and their organizations.
Surviving are many friends, caregivers and cousins, among them Ted and Carolyn Shaw. Gratitude goes to Homewood at Williamsport and Hospice of Washington County for their compassionate care.
Services will be held Friday, December 29 at 12 noon at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 209 West Main Street, Sharpsburg, MD. The Rev. Mark Wm. Wastler will officiate. Burial follows the service in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.
