
Robert Augustus Keedy, 96, of Hagerstown, passed away, Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his home under the care of Hospice of Washington County.
Born November 8, 1922 in Keedysville, Maryland, he was the son of the late, Charles Edward and Carrie Mabel (Poole) Keedy. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Keedy retired in 1983 from Potomac Edison where he was a Substation Supervisor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of John Wesley United
Methodist Church, Hagerstown. He was also a member of the Potomac Edison forerunners
His hobbies include birding, reading history and fixing things. Robert was a 6th generation American Keedy. The 1st and 2nd generations of Keedys are buried in a little family cemetery at Eakle’s Mill in southern Washington County. In the 1990s Robert rediscovered the cemetery which had all but disappeared in the underbrush. He cleared the plot and painstakingly reconstructed all the headstones which had been broken and scattered. It is a great family legacy to leave to the extended Keedy family.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Ellen (Hockenhull) Keedy; two children, Betty Willson and husband, Richard of Hagerstown and Charles Keedy and wife, Peggy of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Carrie Willson-Plymire, Jimmy Willson and wife, Christina, Ryan Keedy and wife, Jackie, Meghan Rothwell and husband, Will, Julie Keedy, Allison Thannisch and husband, Wilson and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Rest Haven Funeral Home, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.
