
Philip Grant Handley, 96, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Allegany Health, Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born January 19, 1924 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late William J. Handley and Lettie (Delphey) Handley.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 71 years, Lois M. Handley; an infant daughter; his brother, William D. Handley and wife Maryanna; and, sister-in-law, Betty Jean Young and husband Earl.
Phil graduated from Frederick High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, earning a Bronze Star.
Mr. Handley was retired from Potomac Edison with 46 years of service. He had been supervisor of Customer Service.. He was also a long time member of the Potomac Edison Forerunners Club.
He was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Phil also belonged to Clinton Lodge #86, A.F. & A.M.; 32nd. Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; Ali Ghan Shrine, where he belonged to the Motor Corps; and, Past Director, Past Impresario, and Impresario Emeritus of Cumberland Court #117, R.O.J.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Fisher and husband Pat; grandchildren, Laura Puffenbarger and husband John and P. Jacob Fisher; two great grandsons, Mason and Gavin; and, a niece Elizabeth “Betsy” Handley and husband Tom.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2-3 PM.
Inurnment will be at MSVC-Rocky Gap at a later date.
