Edward Black Zimmerman Jr., 74, of 17435 Amber Drive in Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 21, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edward Black Zimmerman Sr. and Helen Zimmerman Zimmerman.

He was a 1955 graduate of Hagerstown High School and graduated from Hagerstown Junior College in June 1968.

He retired from UPS in 2000 after 34 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Marines from 1955 to 1963.

He was a member of B.P.O. Elks 378, Williamsport (Md.) American Legion Post 212, Eagles Club of Waynesboro, Pa., Improved Order of Red Men Williamsport Lodge 84, Tri-State Ravens Nest 12, Marine Corps League. Antietam Fire Company and The Potomac Edison Forerunners Club.

He loved sports, particularly the Ravens and NASCAR. He also loved to travel, and classic cars.

He is survived by his wife of 49-plus years, Joanne Zimmerman; daughter, Tammy Zimmerman of Rockville, Md.; sister-in-law, Tessa McCarty of Hagerstown; and nephew, Douglas Lefevre.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Lefevre.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Holy Trinity, 17805 Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. Timothy Leighton will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. BPO Elks Lodge 378 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday.
